Hi I'm Catherine Tuttle. I am a student at Seton High School and I am using my Wiki for an English Project that focuses on the novel, Snow Falling in the Spring, by Moying Li. I enjoy singing, acting, reading, and most importantly spending time with my friends and family. I like parties and going to see movies, but I try my best when it comes to things like school and playing the guitar and improving my voice and acting skills. I like to just have fun! :)

Summary of Snow Falling in the Spring, by Moying LiThe story opens up with Moying Li telling the readers about her lovely little life in her courtyard home with all of her family there at the very beginning of Cultural Revolution. She lives in the same area as all of her uncles, aunts, and cousins, along with her parents, grandparents, Lao Lao and Lao Ye, and little brother, DiDi. The children she lives with constantly get to play and be free in their courtyard, until one day when Chairman Mao makes her family put a big oven that melts metal in their courtyard. This oven imediately becomes enemy number one, until it seems to grow on her and she and all the children who play in the courtyard decide to help and watch the machine. Next, sparrows are made enemies because Chairman Mao says they eat the crops grown in China. In truth, the birds were killing the bugs that were killing the crops and now since the bugs could eat freely, all the crops started to die and China went into a terrible famine. Moying was able to escape this famine when she goes to a boarding school that allowed children to learn different languages. This is when Red Gaurds started to apear in the story. The Red Guards were teenagers who were strong followers of Chairman Mao who check the "list of accused," a list that says people's names who are against Chairman Mao, and make sure those people are punished. The headmaster of Moying's school hung himself after being bullied by the Red Guards. This is when Moying claims her childhood ended. Eventually, even most books were banned from all houses and schools. After this, everything in Moying's life went downhill. Will she be able to continue reading and learning as much as she wants to? Will her life ever go back to the way it was before the Cultural Revolution?
