Economics and Sacrifice (America)Several people in America are going through economic hardships right now. Prices and taxes are raising on multiple items, more and more people are getting layed off every day, and more people seem to need financial support than ever.
Another exaple of America's economy going down the drain is that people are getting laid off. According to the article, "Bear Run at NSE Forces Firm to Lay Off Employees," reports that, even though they laid four well-paid people off, "We will not make money in the fourth quarter of this year at best we will break even." This shows that even though businesses are laying people off, the economy is so bad that laying people off is hardly even helping them anymore because they have so little money coming in.
This picture represents that several businesses are getting budget cuts, resulting in workers getting pay cuts and laid off. The first example of America's economy going bad is that price for most things are raising drastically. The article, "Why are Food Prices Raising So Fast?" reports that this past April alone, "grapes went up nearly 30 percent, cabbage jumped about 17 percent, and orange juice surged more than 5 percent." This article also says, "on the stuff that people spend money on every day like food and gas, prices have gone up dramatically." This is a big set back for most people because most are getting laid off or they recieved a pay cut, so they have trouble affording these daily necessities without their prices rising, but with the prices rising, it is nearly impossible for some people to afford food and gas.
This graphs shows how much the price of gasoline increased between the months of December, 2010 and April, 2011.
Also, especially suring this time of the year, many people are making sacrifices for others and being very generous with their money. For example, there is a person who when to Kmart and paid all the customers' layaways so that they could afford the girls that they bought for Christmas and no longer have to return gifts to be able to afford everything that they bought. According to the article, "Anonymous donors pay off Kmart layaway accounts," by channel 9 news, "Anonymous donors are paying off strangers' layawayaccounts, buying the Christmas gifts other families couldn't afford, especially toys and children's clothes set aside by impoverished parents." This gesture is extremely courteous considering that so many people are on low budgets these days and cannot afford all the things that they want to. This is the channel 9 news report on the Kmart layaway angel.
